Key CMS Components

  • Simple Editing Interface - this is sometimes called “front-end editing” and allows authors to edit content via the WYSIWYG editor on a simple web page interface. Requires Web content editors, little training and limited computer skills to edit content.
  • Administration Interface - this interface provides access to the full contents of the CMS system and all of its functionality.
  • Multiple author environment - available including comprehensive security features to define functions available to each user.
  • Content Creation - highly visual and intuitive, designed to meet accepted usability standards in all aspects of its functionality.
  • Content Management - create unlimited number of web pages. Web pages are created and configured via a simple interface, and you can move pages or site sub-sections easily within the asset tree.
  • Publishing Principles - Web pages created are capable of being indexed by internal and external search engines.  CMS gives all pages a sensible URL rather than terminating the URL with a complex GET which cause some search engines to be unable to crawl the site.
  • Open Source System - the full API is available.  Integration with other systems tends to be easier because the source code is open, and because open source projects tend to use other open source systems (e.g. databases) and open standards (e.g. PEAR) that are also easy to integrate with.
  • Publishing Process - Content managed can be published as Live easily.
  • Version Control - full versioning of all assets is also available. The system automatically stores all changes to each asset, when the change was made and by whom.
  • User Management and Security - the following types of users, each of which has varying access levels:
    • Normal User: has no access to authoring any content.
    • Editor User: may author content if their profile allows them to edit that content.
    • Administrator: may access the administration interfaces, including all content, and most system tools.
    • Root User: may access the administration interfaces, including all content, and all system tools.  There is only one “Root User” per system.
  • Portal, Personalisation and Web Marketing - includes many features associated with portal systems, including
    • Access may be restricted to people who require login.
    • Content within pages may be displayed selectively for individual users.
    • Content may be displayed alternatively depending on a user's settings.
  • Search Engine - includes a powerful search engine module. Full text searching of content in a website or intranet.  When an asset is added, edited or deleted from the CMS, updates its searching index to reflect the change
